This is caused by an absence of a compatible driver on the Windows preload.Im trying to switch back to SATA Mode but I am unable to do so because the BIOS does not give me that option.

I called Lenovo tech support and they told me that I should try updating the BIOS. I updated the BIOS by downloading the available update off Lenovos site but the BIOS Setup Utility did not seem to change. This is frustrating How is it possible to be in compatibility mode without being able to configure compatibility or SATA mode thru the BIOS. I went to BIOS Set Up Utility and trying get into SATA, but there was NO option or menu to go the that. Download chipset drivers (Intel or Lenovo - no difference), run their install and when the install window shows press Win R, type temp and search for folder that contains unpacked chipset drivers. Download nLite, copy all files from your XP installation CD to some folder and then follow instructions of nLite. Voila. ![]() However, after you get that taken care of you do not need to reinstall your OS if u get the BSOD from lacking sata drivers. If you load win in compatibility mode it will run with out any sata drivers. There is usually no reason to keep a sata drive running in compat mode though, that is more for diag or legacy type systems or older IDE drives. If you find that you installed xp for example in compat mode then you will need to download your sata drivers and install them then reboot your system. When you reboot you will need to switch your mode back to AHCI or you will get the BSOD. I just wanted to make sure you know you dont have to reload your system if you have this problem. ![]() The moral of this story is dont load your os in compatiblity mode. Just get your drivers when you do your initial install of xp or use nlite as suggested. The following is straight out of the support doc for the sata drivers: NOTES A Blue Screen error will come up on the Windows preload when these models boot with Compatible mode instead of AHCI that is modified from the BIOS Setup ConfigSerial SATA menu.
